This community exists so people on Medicare — and the families helping them — can ask real questions and hear from others who have been through the same thing. These are the rules that keep it that way.
What we expect
Be kind, especially to beginners
Nobody arrives at Medicare an expert. Answer the question that was asked, and assume the person asking is doing their best.
Share experience, not diagnoses
Telling people what happened to you is useful. Telling someone what medication to take, or to stop taking, is not — that is between them and their doctor.
Say when you are not sure
A hedged answer with a link to an official source beats a confident wrong one. CMS and SSA are the authorities here, not any of us.
Keep it on topic
Medicare, caregiving, and the practical business of getting older. Politics and off-topic debate belong elsewhere.
No selling. At all.
This community is not a sales channel. Licensed agents are welcome to participate as members and to answer questions honestly, but may not advertise, solicit business, post phone numbers or quote links, or direct-message members with offers. This is not a soft rule we bend for good contributors — solicitation is removed on sight, and repeat attempts end in a ban. If you want to talk to a licensed advisor, that is your choice to make, on your own initiative, not because someone approached you here.
Never post personal identifiers
Do not post your Medicare number, Social Security number, member or policy number, medical record number, or date of birth — not in a post, not in a reply, not in a screenshot. Anyone can read this community, and posts appear the moment you submit them. We warn you before you post if something looks like a personal identifier, but nothing stops you, and once a number is published it cannot be unpublished. Please read your post before sending it.
How moderation works
Posts and replies go live immediately — nothing waits in a queue. An automated screen still reads everything as it is posted and records what it finds, but it does not hold your post back. Moderation happens after the fact: if something breaks these guidelines, report it and a moderator will remove it. We would rather a question get answered today than sit unread for a day waiting on us.
If you see something
Report it. Solicitation, harmful advice, harassment, or anything that looks like someone has posted their own private information by mistake — flag it and a moderator will look.
